July 2022 Data Boot Camp
Purpose
On July 8, 2022, the CCEE, CDE, and SBE hosted a Data Boot Camp and Introductory Convening for statewide evaluation teams. This convening featured sessions to support evaluation teams of statewide funded initiatives as they are preparing to launch evaluations projects or enter into the multi-year phase of the evaluation. This convening is the first of many in what is an effort to create a network of evaluation teams to collaborate on a shared common vision and goal for effective statewide program evaluations.
The Data Boot Camp featured presenters from the California Department of Education and WestEd to share current and future data collections that are publicly available. To support accessing these data, the CDE also provided an overview of the data request processes. The updated information is shared for teams as they progress through the planning, formative, and summative evaluation phases and align with other related professional learning initiatives and the larger System of Support.
Preliminary Framing Questions
What state-level public data are available to support evaluation efforts?
In what ways are evaluation plans, logic models, and data collection similar across evaluations?
How can the CCEE, CDE, and SBE support evaluation teams to ensure coherence and alignment consistent with the State's adopted accountability metrics?
As we try to promote a shared vision across all initiatives, what are some common metrics that could be consistent across all evaluations?
Session Outcomes
Knowledge of state-level public data to support evaluations. Shared understanding among project teams about current and planned evaluation activities.
Shared understanding about expectations for coherence and alignment across evaluations.
